The family was born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to 7 years old, Contractor was well-versed in traveling around the globe and in a wide range of civilizations at an extremely young age. When she was seven to nine, the young lady went to boarding school in London. Her family then moved to Toronto where she lived for most of her childhood. Contractor was a successful academic in Toronto while also training as a ballerina. She studied at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an arts school that focuses on theatre and dance. Contractor started acting at the age of 16 after completing a total of 10 years of dance. When she graduated from high school, Contractor received a scholarship from the University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in psychology and sociology. She also earned a Master's degree in Theatre. Contractor landed her first role after a year of university. After two weeks of performances, she got praise from the audience. The production was recognized as the top production in Canada by critics. The opportunity was presented to her to join Stratford Conservatory. The school accepts only eight men and four women to take a course in classical theater. Contractor was ecstatically accepted. Contractor was offered a place for the next season and was given the part of Hermia.
